Nestled in along the Chapora River estuary in North Goa, is the coastal village of Chapora.
Home to many cheap travel accommodations and the famous Ganesh juice centre, Chapora has a few charms up its sleeve for day tripping.
First up – Chapora Fort, an old Portuguese fort is great for its fantastic views of the Goan coastline, looking North to Morjim, and South to Anjuna. Go early, as it gets hot up there.
Follow it up with the Chapora Jetty … stroll past it, and you’ll find your self in front of a small temple where there will most likely be a Puja going on – Securing safety for the fishing fleet. Keep walking and you’ll find your self on some abandoned stretches of beach pockets, nestled safely under the cliffs of Chapora Fort. Pick up some fresh seafood at the market on your way back – the fleet gets in around 4pm.
And in the evening … plant your self down at any of the cheap local bars and imbibe in some unique conversations, with the hippies who have been stuck here since the ’70s.
Tip: Oppa’s for an authentic Goan dining experience.
